Erbse Posted September 25, 2012 at 06:46 PM Report Posted September 25, 2012 at 06:46 PM http://ebcl.eu.com/ The European Benchmarking Chinese Language (EBCL) project is proposed within the frameworkas set by KA2 Languages within Lifelong Learning Programme, but focuses on Mandarin Chinese, a less widely used and taught non-European language (a kind of LWULTs) that not only has “minority language, migrant language” status, but also a vital importance with “significant trading partners”, with rapidly increasing demand within EU countries for the learning and teaching of the language. EBCL seems to be a EU program, which aims to solve the problems that arise when the CEFR is applied to learning Chinese. They seem to have meetings regularly and some papers can be found on their webpage in the Research/documents part. Despite the fact that Chinese to them has "vital importance", the project is still defining what a A1/A2 Chinese learner should be able to accomplish. B1 and higher levels are not discussed yet. roddy Posted September 26, 2012 at 04:24 PM Report Posted September 26, 2012 at 04:24 PM Hopefully they'll conclude that an A2 Chinese learner should be able to do the same as an A2 French learner. 1 Quote

Friedrich Posted October 4, 2012 at 12:36 AM Report Posted October 4, 2012 at 12:36 AM I wonder who are the people working on that project. Did they actualy study Mandarin themselves? Or are they discussing A1/A2 level because none of them made it past B1 so far? Quote
