A poem : not a whole translation needed

They are written by someone for his son called Datong (達同) in 1998 when he was a guest/visitor in "west city". They should be read from left to right (quite strange). The contents are all very clear.

The one on the left is from Shang Shu (尚書) - 功崇惟志,業廣惟勤。 Determination leads to great achievement, diligence leads to flourishing business.

The one on the right is from Yijing (易經) - 天行健君子以自強不息 - wikitonary
