edelweis Posted October 4, 2012 at 05:59 PM Report Share Posted October 4, 2012 at 05:59 PM Hello Chase, have you read the threads which are referenced in paragraph 3 of How to post, and how translating names into Chinese works ? Basically you can get a transliteration. That's a series of Chinese characters which sound more or less like "Chase Corbitt" pronounced very oddly. It will be 5 or 6 syllabes long, so it will not look at all like a normal Chinese name (2 or 3 syllables). Or, you can get a "Chinese name" by using a classical Chinese surname (1 syllable) and make up a Chinese given name (1 or 2 syllables). It can sound a little like "Chase Corbitt" or "Corbitt Chase, or not at all, you can select characters based on sound, meaning, visual shape and so on. In both cases you will need help from an advanced Chinese learner or native Chinese speaker so that the result does not look too odd or even offensive... So which do you want? for what purpose? WestTexas Posted October 5, 2012 at 04:05 AM Report Share Posted October 5, 2012 at 04:05 AM 且斯·可尔比特,好不? Not sure what to choose for the first character. The sound is right but I'm not sure if 且 is the best one to choose for transliterations. Other than that I think it's OK. BTW, I just figured out that to get a · you can just press | (shift+\) while your keyboard is in Chinese input mode, at least on the microsoft pinyin input.
