xiaoxiaocao Posted October 20, 2012 at 12:29 AM Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 12:29 AM Is anybody else having trouble viewing the articles on this page? I can get to the main China page but the articles are always missing. It has been like this for the last week or so. Even using Free gate vpn it is still blank. Quote
liuzhou Posted October 20, 2012 at 01:14 AM Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 01:14 AM Which page do you mean? The China news page in English or The Chinese page? In any case, both are working fine for me, both directly and through Freegate. Quote
WestTexas Posted October 20, 2012 at 08:16 AM Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 08:16 AM Liuzhou, which version of Freegate are you using now? My Freegate hasn't been working for the past few weeks. I can open both sites with no VPN. Quote
liuzhou Posted October 20, 2012 at 08:26 AM Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 08:26 AM I don't normally use FG, but did check it in response to this thread. I used version 7.35, the latest. Quote
xiaoxiaocao Posted October 20, 2012 at 09:09 AM Author Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 09:09 AM Hi Liuzhou, I mean the China news page in English. The left hand side of the page usually has a long list of articles running downwards but for me it is just blank. Same thing happened when I clicked the link you left. I have no problem getting to the page, its just the news articles are not there. Quote
liuzhou Posted October 20, 2012 at 09:14 AM Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 09:14 AM I see what you mean now that we have identified which page you were referring to. Just checked with a friend in the UK. It's the same there. It's a NYT problem. Nothing to do with China or firewalls. (By the way. FG isn' t a VPN.) Quote
xiaoxiaocao Posted October 20, 2012 at 09:21 AM Author Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 09:21 AM The weird thing is that on the Asia page there are China related stories and you can click through and read them no problem.... Quote
liuzhou Posted October 20, 2012 at 09:26 AM Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 09:26 AM You can do the same on the China page. All the links on the right work. The links that are not there don't work? Quote
xiaoxiaocao Posted October 20, 2012 at 10:11 AM Author Report Posted October 20, 2012 at 10:11 AM All the links on the right work. Yes, but they are all older news stories. Oh well, I guess I'll just move on to another news provider. Quote
xiaoxiaocao Posted October 26, 2012 at 11:54 AM Author Report Posted October 26, 2012 at 11:54 AM http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/26/world/asia/china-blocks-web-access-to-new-york-times.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20121026 Seems to be blocked completely now in China. Not surprising with stories like this - http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/26/business/global/family-of-wen-jiabao-holds-a-hidden-fortune-in-china.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20121026 Quote
liuzhou Posted October 26, 2012 at 01:06 PM Report Posted October 26, 2012 at 01:06 PM Well, the reaction is surprising. This story has been around for months. The Guardian and the BBC ran it six months ago. It seems to be more about the timing than the content, which is all in the public domain. Also, same commentators who should know better are saying the Chinese internet slowed down significantly once the NYT article was published. No. It slowed down a full 12 hours earlier. Quote
