smossey88 Posted November 6, 2012 at 07:11 PM Report Posted November 6, 2012 at 07:11 PM Hi everyone, I am applying to the CSC scholarship this year but was wondering if anyone could provide me with some insight into other "funded" opportunities to study in China, and what schools may be good options for studying language. I had two questions I wasn't sure about. 1) I've read up on many Universities and only applied to PKU last year. I know there is no concrete answer, but can anyone provide some good suggestions for Universities to study at? I've read that studying in big cities is often not the best environment to learn the language, but I would also value any personal experiences. There is a long list of schools many of which I am sure do not offer the language scholarship. In the end I would probably take almost any University, but any input or experiences would be great! 2) I know of many other opportunities for study in China such as teaching overseas, or the Boren scholarship but if anyone has any additional opportunities that are funded that would be great. I really want to start my language training by next September and the more I apply I figure the better my chances are. Also in regard to question #2 are there any teach abroad program's you would suggest staying away from. I have found so many opportunities that I am wary of many of them. My ultimate goal is to learn the language, and while I can deal with almost anything I would hate to lose out financially or fall into some sort of scam. Good program suggestions would be immensely appreciated. Thank you! Quote
JCJC Posted November 7, 2012 at 06:59 AM Report Posted November 7, 2012 at 06:59 AM Look into the CLS Scholarship/Fellowship. Another one called the Blakemore. Google it to get more. Or you could just teach english in Shanghai and enroll yourself either in a Language Training Institute or University program(University Program is better value for money) while also teaching. That will be a busy schedule but still feasible. Quote
smossey88 Posted November 7, 2012 at 02:25 PM Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 at 02:25 PM These are great JCJC, but they require at least an intermediate knowledge of the language . However, I may apply to them next year if everything goes well. Does anyone know of any beginner level scholarships? The teach abroad option is also a sound one, and I think I could handle some courses, while doing it. Quote
