Microsoft turns spoken English into spoken Mandarin – in the same voice

I thought this article and video might be of interest. The most interesting part of the video is about 6 minutes in.

That is scary. I note that for the last part, where the machine is actually speaking, the human has stopped speaking off the cuff and appears to be reading prewritten, very short and easy sentences. Still, it's pretty amazing.
