Here's an amusing topic. Let's share our telephone answering machine outgoing Chinese messages.

Here's mine:

喂，我是Confucius. 对不起，我不在家。 请留言说你的名字和电话号码。谢谢

I know, I know; it's not a funny one. I used to do more 喂s at the beginning with a slightly longer pause between each one (wei...wei....wei.....) but it annoyed too many people.

I don't have an answering machine in China....or voice mail for that matter. I dont' even know anyone that does.

Answering machines do not seem to be an idea that ever caught on in China. I had one several years ago, but gave up on it after coming home every day to several messages which were all the same!

Everybody has a mobile now anyway so the concept is redundant.
