drencrom Posted November 27, 2012 at 06:00 AM Report Share Posted November 27, 2012 at 06:00 AM What is the best program for reading Chinese on a computer screen? I recently started a new job with lots of Chinese computing, and it's not the kind that I can copy & paste into a browser window to translate. I need an application that will view what's under the mouse cursor and translate it, or allow me to copy & paste. I have tried MDBG reader, but it has the wonderful feel of a Windows 3.1 application, plus I don't trust any software that checks with a license server before allowing you to use it. I tried 金山词霸 but it is really for Chinese speakers to read English, its Chinese ability is subpar. Actually, that goes for all the made-in-China screen readers, Kingsoft, etc. Perapera for Firefox is great, but only works inside the browser. What else is out there? I've tried searching for 'screen reader' but the results are hopelessly muddied by devices for the blind.
muirm Posted November 28, 2012 at 06:04 AM Report Share Posted November 28, 2012 at 06:04 AM I think a better search term is "mouse-over chinese dictionary", which will lead you to this other thread. The discussion is a year old at this point, though.
