gougou Posted February 19, 2005 at 08:51 AM Report Posted February 19, 2005 at 08:51 AM Especially on this website, I find that a lot of people are using traditional characters, which I unfortunately can't read (yet?). So to let me join in the fun, does anybody know a tool that converts traditional to simplified characters? And BTW, how come you all use traditional? Are you all in non-mainland locations, or are there other reasons? Quote
trevelyan Posted February 19, 2005 at 09:07 AM Report Posted February 19, 2005 at 09:07 AM Try the GNU program "iconv" (libiconv): You get simplified text simply by converting from a traditional script to guobiao (GB2312). The program comes installed by default with most Linux distributions., but it's free software so should be a Windows binary available somewhere. Quote
gougou Posted February 19, 2005 at 09:49 AM Author Report Posted February 19, 2005 at 09:49 AM Thanks, currently trying to figure out how to use it... If anybody else is interested, one place to download the program is: http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/libiconv.htm Quote
in_lab Posted March 1, 2005 at 04:54 AM Report Posted March 1, 2005 at 04:54 AM 胡同 is much easier to read on the computer screen than 衚衕. Regarding the original post, I recently used Convertz to convert texts between traditional/simplified characters. I found it better than Microsoft Word. And I think it's freeware. Quote
