graphis_7 Posted December 2, 2012 at 07:13 PM Report Posted December 2, 2012 at 07:13 PM I am originally a cantonese so i havn't heard of this "要么" phrase before, just want to know if the usage of this phase is specific to a locale? Is it used in China/ Taiwan? Thanks! Quote
imron Posted December 2, 2012 at 09:33 PM Report Posted December 2, 2012 at 09:33 PM It's used all the time in mainland China, and to me is a standard part of Mandarin. Quote
creamyhorror Posted December 3, 2012 at 01:03 AM Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 01:03 AM I associate it with the mainland. It's not used in Singapore, and I don't think I've heard it on Taiwanese shows. Quote
Olle Linge Posted December 3, 2012 at 01:19 AM Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 01:19 AM I have mostly studied Chinese in Taiwan and although I've seen this written occasionally, I think I've never heard it spoken. This doesn't necessarily mean that people don't use it at all of course, but at least it's much less common here than on the mainland. Quote
skylee Posted December 3, 2012 at 01:56 AM Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 01:56 AM I think it is a very common pattern. I don't use it when I speak (because I usually speak in Cantonese), but I use it in writing. Quote
