graphis_7 Posted December 3, 2012 at 06:16 AM Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 06:16 AM I am still very confused about the R sound (RONG, RAN), can anyone listen to my sound samples attached and tell me which version is the most accurate? Thanks! *the volume might be a little low, so please turn it up if needed to, the sound is definitely there! 容易 -version 1 -version 2 -version 3 雖然 -version 1 -version 2 -version 3 easy3.wma easy2.wma easy1.wma although3.wma although2.wma although1.wma Quote
陳德聰 Posted December 3, 2012 at 07:07 AM Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 07:07 AM It might be a problem with my computer (?) but even with my volume cranked as high as it will go I can barely hear the recordings. From what I did hear though, the 2nd recording of each one is off. The /r/ from 1 and 3 of both seem acceptable enough, while your suī in 雖然 is definitely very Cantonese-y. Quote
graphis_7 Posted December 3, 2012 at 07:51 AM Author Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 07:51 AM thanks for the response 陳德聰, i re-recorded the clips so they are now much louder...hopefully you can check them out again Sign i really don't know what "very cantonese-y" really means...can you please elaborate? many thanks! skylee Posted December 3, 2012 at 01:13 PM Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 01:13 PM This is what I think - Although1 is ok. Although2 is absolutely wrong. Although3 is not good (don't roll your tongue). And the "sui" is wrong (You pronounced the "s" as if it were "sh". But I don't think you did it because you speak Cantonese. ) Easy2 is definitely wrong. Easy1 is bad. Easy3 is about ok, but again I think you should keep your tongue still. Re the wrong ones - r ≠ y Quote
David Wong Posted December 3, 2012 at 04:01 PM Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 04:01 PM Although1 is the best attempt among the three but It sounds to me like you're pronouncing 虽 using the fourth tone while it should be the first tone. I think Easy3 is fine. Quote
Don_Horhe Posted December 3, 2012 at 05:23 PM Report Posted December 3, 2012 at 05:23 PM Although1 is closest to what standard r should sound like. Have a look at this page: http://www.sinosplice.com/learn-chinese/pronunciation-of-mandarin-chinese/5 It's the best non-technical description of the correct articulation of zh, ch, sh, j, q, x and r I've ever come across. graphis_7 Posted December 4, 2012 at 07:59 AM Author Report Posted December 4, 2012 at 07:59 AM thanks for all the feedbacks! Can anyone check although4 and although5 to see if i have fixed the "SUI" issue??? thanks! although4.wma although5.wma Quote
skylee Posted December 4, 2012 at 08:34 AM Report Posted December 4, 2012 at 08:34 AM I think although4 is good. Quote
陳德聰 Posted December 4, 2012 at 09:49 AM Report Posted December 4, 2012 at 09:49 AM Ditto to skylee, although4 = good. What I meant by "Cantonese-y" is that the vowel sounded like sounded Cantonese where 雖 and 佢 rhyme, not the part where it sounded like an "sh". Quote
