Scandinavian Posted February 27, 2013 at 04:39 AM Report Posted February 27, 2013 at 04:39 AM It is virtually unreadable. And 90% of it isn't Christian anyway. No it's not. admittedly there would be a difference between King James Version and more current versions. If you're a Christian who cannot pull yourself together to go through it page by page, then you are (in my book) not very devoted to your religion. If you are indeed a believer, then your can pray for strength to be able to get through the Bible. There is also easy read versions for children where the language is more common, but those versions typically also leave out all the nasty parts of the bible Per definition 100% of the contents of the Bible is Christian. Being Christian is all about following the Bible. Quote

Scandinavian Posted February 27, 2013 at 12:36 PM Report Posted February 27, 2013 at 12:36 PM Yeah, I know. Not one of them though, but reading stuff that has had a massive influence on the culture I grew up in, seemed like a pretty sane idea. Quote
li3wei1 Posted February 27, 2013 at 02:15 PM Report Posted February 27, 2013 at 02:15 PM If you're a Christian who cannot pull yourself together to go through it page by page, then you are (in my book) not very devoted to your religion. I think there are many people who are very devoted to religions that they don't understand very well, or at least their understanding differs radically from that of other, equally devoted co-religionists. And I'm not singling out any particular faith here. I don't think you can accuse someone of lack of devotion because they fail a reading comprehension test, or don't manage to read the text in the first place. Lack of devotion is where they understand it, but don't live by it. Quote
davoosh Posted March 1, 2013 at 04:16 PM Report Posted March 1, 2013 at 04:16 PM Catholics were dissuaded from reading the Bible until Vatican II....in fact you can be a very devoted Catholic/Orthodox (and therefore Christian) without reading the Bible page by page. Quote
