nipponman Posted February 21, 2005 at 01:23 PM Report Posted February 21, 2005 at 01:23 PM Hi, My question is on how to pronounce words with neutral tones in them. For example 了解, is this pronounced liao2 jie5 or liao3 jie5? Why is it liao3 jie5 anyway, shouldn't it be liao3 jie3? Any way, 十 when it is between a number, does it have a tone? E.g is it ba1 shi5 qi1 or ba1 shi2 qi1 or? (87) Thanx for your help, Nipponman Quote

nipponman Posted February 21, 2005 at 10:47 PM Author Report Posted February 21, 2005 at 10:47 PM Right, I know that that is how it should be but my dictionary says it is liao3 jie5. I know about two three tones together, but I don't know about a third and a fifth tone that was a third tone. Quote
skylee Posted February 21, 2005 at 11:47 PM Report Posted February 21, 2005 at 11:47 PM my dictionary says it is liao3 jie5 What a special dictionary. Both of my dictionaries at home give me liao3 jie3. These two dictionaries are 現代漢語辭典 and 商務印書館漢英辭典, which are quite trustworthy. These tools also give "liao3 jie3" -> http://cdict.giga.net.tw/?query=%A4F%B8%D1 http://humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/cgi-bin/agrep-lindict?query=%A4F&category=wholerecord&boo=or&order=all http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php?wdrst=1&wdqchssp=%E4%BA%86%E8%A7%A3 Quote
nipponman Posted February 22, 2005 at 04:44 PM Author Report Posted February 22, 2005 at 04:44 PM Ok, hypothetically though, what would happen, because I know there are words like this but can't think of an example Quote
