Hello! I am making my friend something for christmas and I would like to have her name on it in Chinese. Her name is Cheryl. The attached picture is the most common translation I've found... I'm assuming this is just translating the sounds of the name, but I'm not sure. I just want to make sure this is the most correct version I can use. I would greatly appreciate the help!!!

According to my dictionary, it's 谢丽尔 or 谢莉尔. Foreign names are often translated into Chinese only by their pronunciations.

Yes, 谢丽尔 is just a (rather inaccurate) approximation of the pronunciation.

It is not possible to translate names. At best you can only approximate the sound of the name, but Chinese and English have different sound systems so some sounds are not possible. Even if sounds can be approximated, the resulting Chinese is nearly always complete nonsense.

Use her real name. Names are too important to be messed with.
