american914 Posted January 7, 2013 at 10:02 PM Report Posted January 7, 2013 at 10:02 PM Hi I'm going to apply for a Z visa. I know I have to get a health check. I have a minor heart condition which gives me high blood pressure (which is brought under control by taking medication). Is there some institution I could contact to find out whether or not this will cause me to be denied a visa? Perhaps the embassy in my own country? Thanks Mark Quote
WestTexas Posted January 7, 2013 at 11:29 PM Report Posted January 7, 2013 at 11:29 PM It shouldn't be an issue. The health check is just to make sure you don't have HIV/AIDS, or anything that will kill you suddenly. 1 Quote
lanzhoumian Posted January 8, 2013 at 06:45 PM Report Posted January 8, 2013 at 06:45 PM The Z-visa health check is supposed to check for eye sight, lungs etc. (I do think they measure blood pressure as well) but it is a complete joke, so do not worry about it. You could be missing both arms and legs and they wouldnt notice. I have never heard of anyone being denied a visa because of not passing that check and that included people going there still intoxicated with all kinds of things. Quote
Cat Jones Posted January 9, 2013 at 01:55 AM Report Posted January 9, 2013 at 01:55 AM The health check is far more comprehensive than the last poster suggests. It does involve a blood pressure check, but also blood tests, a chest x-ray, an ECG check, and an ultrasound. But as West Texas mentioned, they are only really worried about communicable diseases such as HIV and TB (the chest xray is to check for TB), so I'm sure your condition will not be a problem in terms of getting the visa. icebear Posted January 9, 2013 at 06:08 AM Report Posted January 9, 2013 at 06:08 AM The X-ray test can also be used to detect tumors - I saw someone discover (likely) tumors in his lungs at his screening in 2006. His permit was rejected. Quote
