chiappa Posted January 11, 2013 at 02:03 PM Report Posted January 11, 2013 at 02:03 PM I'm in need of an online service that lets me send SMS from the web, preferably so that the receiver can see my Chinese mobile phone number as the sender. Skype has this feature, however the number does not show up correctly for Chinese, US and some other carriers. Plus I would imagine it could be cheaper from the mainland. So thats why I'm looking for such a service in China which would work at least for Chinese numbers. If you have any idea about this, please point me to the right direction. Thanks! chiappa Quote
skylee Posted January 11, 2013 at 02:21 PM Report Posted January 11, 2013 at 02:21 PM How about Heywire? It does not cover Hk but it covers the Mainland and USA. I use the australian SMSfun (txtfan.com). It shows my HK number correctly but it does not support Chinese. Quote
chiappa Posted January 11, 2013 at 02:37 PM Author Report Posted January 11, 2013 at 02:37 PM Seems that Heywire gives you a US number that you SMS with. I need it to show my actual Chinese number. Interesting service though, thanks for info! Quote
roddy Posted January 11, 2013 at 03:25 PM Report Posted January 11, 2013 at 03:25 PM Is there any desktop client / instant messaging software provided by your Chinese mobile company? I'm halfway sure I used to have something from China Mobile that did this, but this was years back. Who's your provider? Quote
roddy Posted January 11, 2013 at 03:46 PM Report Posted January 11, 2013 at 03:46 PM THIS! Not sure if it does what you need it to, but worth a look. Assuming you're on China Mobile, of course. Quote
chiappa Posted January 11, 2013 at 05:03 PM Author Report Posted January 11, 2013 at 05:03 PM I'm on Unicom actually. This Feixin service seems to support other providers as well but I just tried the web client and as far as I can tell it requires you to become "friends" with whom you message. I just need to send SMS plain and simple. Quote
Takeshi Posted January 11, 2013 at 07:20 PM Report Posted January 11, 2013 at 07:20 PM It might be more inconvenient, but you could still try using it. Chinese people seem to universally agree to all feixin friend requests (from people they know) and it sends it straight to their phone just like a text message. Quote
chiappa Posted January 12, 2013 at 05:41 AM Author Report Posted January 12, 2013 at 05:41 AM I did try it out and the impression is pretty bad so far:) The web client didn't work on my Mac so had to use an "old chinese winblows" computer where it worked fine except when I tried to send friend requests to two different numbers they received nothing. Mac client couldn't login so I rang up the help desk which told me that it's not suppose to work... Well I've been around long enough not to be surprised at all. The quest continues... Quote
skylee Posted January 13, 2013 at 04:11 AM Report Posted January 13, 2013 at 04:11 AM Do you need to type in Chinese in the sms? If not, have you tried txtfan.com? Quote
chiappa Posted January 13, 2013 at 05:49 AM Author Report Posted January 13, 2013 at 05:49 AM Yeah I need but just English messages would be a good start. That site doesn't accept Chinese customers and I tried to confirm an account with a Chinese number but didn't work. Quote
