What do these characters mean please?

Hi there,

The characters are:

海 东 (but in traditional character so )

Unsure of the exact meaning as each are individual characters, but you can put them into online dictionaries now to make your own interpretation :)

Actually scratch that - the order is 福如东海 which means 'happiness as boundless as the eastern sea' and it a phrase of congratulations (see here)

福如东海,often followed by 寿比南山, is used to wish somebody aged happy birthday.

福如东海:good fortune as boundless as the eastern sea

寿比南山:long life as long as the Southern Mountain
