Jamuna Posted January 29, 2013 at 09:53 AM Report Posted January 29, 2013 at 09:53 AM Which province/city in China is loaded with Chinese culture with comparatively very little westernization? Quote
gato Posted January 29, 2013 at 10:43 AM Report Posted January 29, 2013 at 10:43 AM Maybe try one of the poorer places in Shaanxi or Jiangxi province. Quote
imron Posted January 29, 2013 at 10:55 AM Report Posted January 29, 2013 at 10:55 AM As a general rule, the further west you go the less westernised/developed China is. There is plenty of culture everywhere, but it is probably very different from what you expect, whether you are in a more modern city or not. Quote
gato Posted January 29, 2013 at 10:57 AM Report Posted January 29, 2013 at 10:57 AM Until you get to Tibet or Xinjiang, whose Chinese-ness is then more subject to dispute. Quote

roddy Posted January 29, 2013 at 11:45 AM Report Posted January 29, 2013 at 11:45 AM You need to come up with a much clearer idea of what you want before anyone is going to be able to help you. Describe your ideal week in China... Quote
Lanchong Posted January 29, 2013 at 02:46 PM Report Posted January 29, 2013 at 02:46 PM Modern Chinese culture is a mixture of old and new ideas, of domestic and foreign influences. You won't understand modern (or ancient) China by living in some minimally-modern village, any more than you would understand anything about British culture by living in a thatched cottage in a small village and eating cottage pie and drinking mead every night for dinner. 1 Quote
gato Posted January 29, 2013 at 03:03 PM Report Posted January 29, 2013 at 03:03 PM You are coming from Chennai? Are you Indian? After 30 years of Russian Communist influence, plus 20 more years of socialism with Chinese characteristics, it may be difficult to find traditional China in mainland China any more. You might have better luck in Taiwan, particularly in southern Taiwan. 1 Quote
