Hi all,

In the following sentence, I'm not sure about the meaning of 对.

自己画的画儿总是不满意

Google translates this to something like "he is always not satisfied by his own drawings".

I would guess that 对 means something like "by".

Am I right?

Here 对 means more like 'towards'. What follows it, is the target of the main action (being unsatisfied), so here it means he is never satisfied with his own paintings.

儿 is not necessary, sometimes used to emphasize 儿化音。

My translation is, He is always unsatisfied with the pictures he has drawn.Dui means to, towards, with etc. Er can be omitted, northerners say huaer, while southers say hua.

画儿 means 画. The 儿 just to make the sentence smooth. It is popular in North China.
