Pengyou Posted February 5, 2013 at 05:16 AM Report Share Posted February 5, 2013 at 05:16 AM I have heard about key logging software, i.e. an app that is installed on a pc that will record each keystroke that you make. Is there some way to scan a computer in an internet cafe to find out if such a thing is installed and active? Also, if I am using my computer in my own home (rented apartment) is there a way this kind of application can be installed outside of my home? roddy Posted February 5, 2013 at 12:43 PM Report Share Posted February 5, 2013 at 12:43 PM In Chinese Internet cafes, they just sit next to you and read your emails out as you write them....

The main way this happens is with a Trojan horse, where you are tricked into downloading and running a program that installs the keyboard logger, when it is pretending to be something useful to you. But it might also be possible to do this with a java applet if there is an exploitable flaw in your java runtime. You can prevent this by disabling the java plugin in your web browser (In Firefox, Tools | Add-ons | Plug-ins). When you update java, it might reenable the plugin--just disable it again.
