Balthazar Posted February 5, 2013 at 02:30 PM Report Posted February 5, 2013 at 02:30 PM I've read some posts here suggesting comics as light reading suitable for beginners. I'm at a very elementary stage of learning, and so even the simplest comics out there would probably have me spending more time in the dictionary than the comic itself. But I thought it would be fun to check out a few, and seeing how I will be spending time in the Mainland for Spring Festival (Fuzhou and Xiamen) this seems like a good opportunity to pick up a few. (I currently live in Hong Kong - until the end of this semester - and although I haven't checked out what's on offer here I imagine most is in traditional characters?) So I was wondering if you have any suggestions. The simpler the better (i.e. comics for kids is fine, this is more for the sake of exposure to some simple sentences than a genuinely gripping story line), and preferably something there is a good chance I'll fine in a book store. (Edit: As for locating places that sell comic books, my GF will help me with that part. Could probably ask the people working there for advice too, but I thought I'd check with the members here first.) Quote
renzhe Posted February 5, 2013 at 03:21 PM Report Posted February 5, 2013 at 03:21 PM Doraemon. You'll find it in every cornershop and it's likely the easiest thing you'll find. For something a bit more challenging (but infinitely more fun), try Ranma. You can probably find the whole collection on Taobao for a reasonable price. Otherwise, you'll find everything you need to know in this thread. 1 Quote
Balthazar Posted February 6, 2013 at 12:44 AM Author Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 12:44 AM Thanks you. Will check out both of those. And looks like I did a poor job of searching prior to posting. That thread looks like gold. Quote
count_zero Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:03 AM Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:03 AM That thread looks a bit overwhelming. Weibo is a good bet. Often, part of the text is in the post title. By that I mean you can copy and paste it into a dictionary to speed up your comprehension. This one uses a cartoony style of Chinese writing. http://weibo.com/2010577105/zhQodhz2L This is a popular adult cartoon. Sexual stuff is a good, if slightly cynical, way of maintaining attention. http://weibo.com/2153728254/zhMx7CDem Quote
