sleepy eyes of death Posted February 6, 2013 at 10:27 AM Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 10:27 AM Hi, everyone. I've used the search function first and found a wealth of information but nothing specific enough. I need to dispatch something crazy like 100-120 kg of books (I'm really not sure right now but if I figure it should be something like that.) It wasn't planned and it needs to be done real fast. I went to check the rates here - http://www.ems.com.cn/serviceguide/zifeichaxun/e_zi_fei_cha_xun.html (it's EMS but it's where the China Post website kept sending me to) and my hair bent back as I almost fell into comatose shock. They have two international services there and the rates were almost 6500 per 30 kg, whether if it was merchandise or "documents" (I assume books fall under that category) Now, I have seen people here shipping internationally for much cheaper, for instance, here -- http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/35133-china-post-2011-rates-advice-tips-china What I cannot find is the chinese name for that service and whether I can calculate its postage rates online somewhere? Oh, I'm shipping from China to Brazil, btw. I assume the rates wouldn't be much higher than the ones for shipping to the US, but I could be wrong. Thanks in advance! Edit: Oh, and if there's anything cheaper than the option mentioned in the thread I linked, I'd be glad to hear! Again, thanks. Quote
gougou Posted February 6, 2013 at 10:48 AM Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 10:48 AM According to China Post's website (I couldn't find a way to give you a deep link, so you'll have to take it from here if you read Chinese), shipping by sea to Brazil costs RMB 551.7 per 20kg (which seems to be the max for this option). gato Posted February 6, 2013 at 11:15 AM Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 11:15 AM Here might be what Gougou was referring to. Shipment by sea. Special rate for printed materials: RMB 100 for the first 5kg. RMB 20 per extra kg. http://zf.chinapost.com.cn/index.do 国际函件资费 (三)水陆路函件资费 单位:元 项目 计费单位 普通国际资费 亚太地区减低资费 印刷品专袋 5000克和5000克以内 100.00 5000克以上续重每1000克或其零数 20.00 Quote
Lu Posted February 6, 2013 at 01:02 PM Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 01:02 PM I'm not sure how to go about it, but I've heard of shipping things by space, ie you could get 2 m2 in a container to ship you things. That should be quite a bit cheaper, especially with something as heavy as books. Quote
gougou Posted February 6, 2013 at 01:10 PM Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 01:10 PM Ah, actually I checked for standard packages - that document rate would be still cheaper. Quote
sleepy eyes of death Posted February 6, 2013 at 01:18 PM Author Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 01:18 PM Thank you so much, guys! That was a life saver. More expensive than I was expecting but still doable. Tomorrow I'll go in person to the closest post-office just to make everything sure before bringing the books over. When it's all said and done I'll post here the information I gather; it might help people afterwards. Lu, I'll look into it but it's all a bit urgent. It would be nice to pay less, regardless! Quote
gato Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:23 PM Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:23 PM Great. EMS stands for Express Mail Services, btw, which is probably why their rates are so much more expensive. Quote
roddy Posted February 6, 2013 at 06:20 PM Report Posted February 6, 2013 at 06:20 PM You say it's urgent - is it the sending or the arrival that's the urgent bit? 水陆路 can be up to three months I think. Quote
sleepy eyes of death Posted February 7, 2013 at 04:20 AM Author Report Posted February 7, 2013 at 04:20 AM It's just the sending, roddy, no worries! I'm ok with the wait, as long as I don't have to pay those 6.000+ rmb. Quote
