I'm currently studying for the HSK level 3, but having hard times understanding some patterns and vocabulary...

Today, I don't understand some details of the following dialog:

女：不要一边吃饭一边看报纸，好不好？

男：知道了，我就看看今天天气怎么样。

I understand roughly the meaning of the whole, as something like:

Woman: You must not read newspapers during eating, ok?

Man: I know, I just look at the weather, is that ok with you?

But I don't understand the meaning of 就 in 我就看看...

Is there anyone who understand?

(.. todays' weather is/will be like ..)

I think you translated "jiu" ok

It means "just' in your translation.

BTW, your "is that ok with you?" is not ok. "看看今天天气怎么样" = to see how today's weather is/will be.

first of all ,the reduplication form of verbs in Chinese semantically implicates short time and little quantity in action，“看看” in this sentence is not only to make the sentence sound softer and more smoothly,but also to mean "looking for a while".

we can conclude from the context that "就" means just/just only.

For example,

A：你去哪里？

B：哪里都不去，我就走走。

"就走走"：just walking (for a while).
