Xeon Posted February 11, 2013 at 03:27 PM Report Posted February 11, 2013 at 03:27 PM Hi all, Wonder if anyone can help. See these chinese shirts here: Instead of round buttons in the middle of the shirt, they have all these knots that tie the two sides of the shirt together. Do people tie the every single knots together when they wear the shirt? Meaning, they put on the shirt, then "button up" by tying the knots together? I need to know how these knots work. Can't quite figure out just by looking at internet pictures, and I can't find such shirts nearby here. Tks! Xeon Quote
Shelley Posted February 11, 2013 at 03:58 PM Report Posted February 11, 2013 at 03:58 PM They do not tie knots. they are a loop on one side and little knot on the other side and you slip the knot through the loop and it is done up. They are sometimes called frog buttons or fasteners Try looking for chinese frog buttons, you may get a picture of them undone and it will be clearer. . 1 Quote

drencrom Posted February 12, 2013 at 11:06 AM Report Posted February 12, 2013 at 11:06 AM The British call them "toggles" and used them on the famous duffle coat. (click the photos to see details) Quote
roddy Posted February 12, 2013 at 11:28 AM Report Posted February 12, 2013 at 11:28 AM Yeah, it's just a toggle, but with a knot instead of a... toggle? Quote
drencrom Posted February 12, 2013 at 03:41 PM Report Posted February 12, 2013 at 03:41 PM The principle is the same, a loop with something larger that won't fit through the loop without a human involved. Quote
frankwall Posted February 13, 2013 at 09:06 AM Report Posted February 13, 2013 at 09:06 AM Yeah, it seems to work the same way as a toggle. Its also making a comeback outside Britain these days - much more fahsionable than the zip phenomenon.... Quote
