Pengyou Posted February 24, 2013 at 09:44 PM Report Posted February 24, 2013 at 09:44 PM Sometimes when I connect to the internet, even though my wifi connection says that I have a strong connection I get the message that says "Limited Access", which really means no internet access. This usually happens late at night through the early morning hours. Is somebody flipping a switch to shut it off at night? BTW, I live in Shenzhen. Quote
frank the tank Posted February 25, 2013 at 12:42 AM Report Posted February 25, 2013 at 12:42 AM I live in Shenzhen, have internet with China Telecom and get the same problem. My solution has just been to reset the router once or twice and it starts working. I always thought it was just that I had a dodgy router. Quote
Pengyou Posted February 25, 2013 at 07:10 AM Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 at 07:10 AM I have reset my router a couple of times but it still continues. Maybe Ijust need to turn it off for a minute or two? Quote
Matty Posted February 27, 2013 at 02:43 AM Report Posted February 27, 2013 at 02:43 AM Go into your router wireless settings and try changing the channel. Where I live 1, 6, 10 seem to be used a lot. Channels also overlap so channel 6 will cause small interference to the 4 channels nearest to it... (4,5,7, Change back and forth till you find something that has a good signal. 1 Quote
imron Posted February 27, 2013 at 08:25 AM Report Posted February 27, 2013 at 08:25 AM This is definitely worth a try. Where I live now (not China), my Internet used to drop out mysteriously shortly after my flatmate got home. After a couple days of trying to figure what was going on, it turned out to be the wireless keyboard/mouse they were using was causing interference on the Wifi channel. Changing the router to use a different channel fixed the problem. Quote
Pengyou Posted March 8, 2013 at 11:21 AM Author Report Posted March 8, 2013 at 11:21 AM the "free" wifi router that came with my internet service seems to be dieing. I want to go shopping for a new one but noticed that the wire feeding into the router is very thin, almost like light gage speaker wiring. Can someone tell me about this? Quote
roddy Posted March 8, 2013 at 11:26 AM Report Posted March 8, 2013 at 11:26 AM Merging with your other Internet query. Let's not also forget to follow up on older posts. Feeding into the router from what? It sounds like ordinary telephone cable to me. Quote
Matty Posted March 8, 2013 at 03:20 PM Report Posted March 8, 2013 at 03:20 PM the "free" wifi router that came with my internet service seems to be dieing. I want to go shopping for a new one but noticed that the wire feeding into the router is very thin, almost like light gage speaker wiring. Can someone tell me about this? Could you take a photo of the head and post it? I've seen some thinner CAT5 cables lately so it's really hard to know from the description of "thin". How many cables can you see inside the head of the cable? Quote
Pengyou Posted March 10, 2013 at 10:53 AM Author Report Posted March 10, 2013 at 10:53 AM The "free" router that came with my broadband service is showing signs of dieing. I can probably get a replacement from the company but the first one is a POS, I am getting the second one will be also. I looked at the router and noticed that it did not have the rj45/10/100 base T cable but a very thin data cable. Can someone tell me about this? I live in Shenzhen, if that makes a difference. Quote
drencrom Posted March 10, 2013 at 11:03 AM Report Posted March 10, 2013 at 11:03 AM RJ-11? Sounds like it's not a router but a DSL modem. You can get a secondhand one off taobao for 25-50 yuan. Quote
msittig Posted March 11, 2013 at 07:52 AM Report Posted March 11, 2013 at 07:52 AM My first thought was fiber optic cable, but that would go into a modem not a router. So probably what drencrom said. Quote
roddy Posted March 11, 2013 at 01:37 PM Report Posted March 11, 2013 at 01:37 PM Merging. Slow down on the generic technical support topics, thanks.... Quote
