markpete Posted March 7, 2013 at 12:46 AM Report Share Posted March 7, 2013 at 12:46 AM Hi, all. I wanted to let you know about a new story book for beginning students of Chinese-- a fairy tale about two people in love. One of the challenges I've had as an independent learner is finding practice reading materials. A lot of what's out there is either at too high a level for me or requires me to read with a dictionary in hand, looking up many of the words. Chinese Breeze is a great series but I often find that having the pinyin as a reference is a great help. This book has a few features that I think are useful: limited vocabulary (~200 different characters, the vast majority of which are among the 400 most commonly used characters) pinyin on the opposite page, facing the Chinese text for easy comparison a glossary that includes every word used in the story footnotes on each page explaining unusual vocabulary It's available in both simplified and traditional characters, on Amazon in the U.S. and in Europe: Amazon.com : simplified , traditional Amazon UK : simplified , traditional If anyone from the forum decides to get a copy, any feedback would be quite welcome! Thanks much, Mark
