Trying to prove a point

My sister and I have a small bet on what her tattoo means...She swears its from a reliable source and translates into tiger. I think she didn't do her homework didnt bother checking first...Can anyone tell me what her tattoo means fron the picture?

It is an (upside-down) "寅" (yín), which is the 3rd of the Earthly Branches (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthly_Branches). It doesn't directly mean tiger, but one correlation of the 12 Earthly Branches is the 12 years in one cycle of the traditional Chinese calendaring system. In this sense, it corresponds to the year of the Tiger, but if a Chinese person were to see this tattoo I don't think she would feel a strong association with the concept of "tiger", although I may be wrong. The best character for tiger is "虎".
