glock Posted March 25, 2013 at 03:33 PM Report Share Posted March 25, 2013 at 03:33 PM Dear all, Are the meanings of 猴子掰棒子 and 狗熊掰棒子 similar? As far as I know the latter means stupid, so how about the first one?

Hermione Yu Posted March 30, 2013 at 09:23 AM Report Share Posted March 30, 2013 at 09:23 AM In my hometown, we use 狗熊掰棒子。But in other provinces' dialect, 猴子掰棒子 is used. The meanings of this two sentences are similar. 狗熊/猴子掰棒子 means 看到一个新玉米,就把手里的扔掉,掰下新的。 you may 掰棒子 a thousand times, but you only got one in your hand at the end. It is usually used in the situation that you learn something new but forget the things you have learned before.
glock Posted March 30, 2013 at 12:20 PM Author Report Share Posted March 30, 2013 at 12:20 PM So basically, they have same meaning then. Thank you very much Hermione. Btw it's weird that 猴子掰班子 is used in some dialect, because I've seen it on an academic paper.
