The meanings of this two sentences are similar. 狗熊/猴子掰棒子 means 看到一个新玉米，就把手里的扔掉，掰下新的。 you may 掰棒子 a thousand times, but you only got one in your hand at the end. It is usually used in the situation that you learn something new but forget the things you have learned before. 2 Quote
