markpete Posted March 29, 2013 at 10:10 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2013 at 10:10 PM Hello, all. For introductory reading materials, the Chinese Breeze series is excellent. I have print copies of the books, but it would be really helpful to have text files so that I could read them on a tablet and use programs that provide pop-up definitions of the vocabulary that I'm not familiar with. Is anyone interested in sharing the burden of transcribing a few of these to text files? I don't think we could post them here, but if anyone is interested, let me know and we can share via e-mail. Thanks, Mark
HarryCallahan Posted March 30, 2013 at 02:01 AM Report Share Posted March 30, 2013 at 02:01 AM OCR surely would help a lot.
character Posted March 30, 2013 at 02:29 AM Report Share Posted March 30, 2013 at 02:29 AM Can't you just use Pleco's OCR to look up words you don't know? Failing that, perhaps support them by buying the Kindle versions, making your own text files, and not letting them out into the wild.
大肚男 Posted March 30, 2013 at 02:51 AM Report Share Posted March 30, 2013 at 02:51 AM Character, I'm buying the kindle version of couple books in the series next week. I'll also buy the pleco package for 39.99. I have an android tablet that I'll be using. I have couple of related questions... 1) does the kindle app have a pop up Chinese dictionary? 2) does the pleco reader support reading directly from kindle (I only have the free version now, and the reader only supports text that is copied into the clipboard)? 3) can I convert the text in a kindle book to text, for printing and writing notes? 4) if I do buy the same books as Mark, and we cooperate in this ubdertaking, would this be a violation of forum rules? thanks for answering. gato Posted March 30, 2013 at 06:00 AM Report Share Posted March 30, 2013 at 06:00 AM 1. Yes, Kindle has an integrated Chinese dictionary that you can download within the app. 2. No, books designed specifically for Kindle can only be used on the Kindle. Pleco currently only supports text files and web pages. 3. No, Kindle does not allow saving to text files, probably for copyright reasons. Short highlights and notes within Kindle, however, can be shared online through Amazon. 4. Yes, sharing pirated educational material would be a violation.
