HI I'm new here! I'm wondering if I'm writing this right:

我们一起常常聊天儿和喝茶.

I translated it from "We often chat and have tea together."

Thanks for any help :)

I suggest putting 一起 after 常常. *

* (And dropping the 儿 if you can.)

I'd prefer 经常 personally. Have no idea way. I get a distinctly textbooky feeling from 常常. But I suppose either would be acceptable.

Thanks for your help guys :) So the new sentence is:

我们常常一起喝茶聊天儿.

tooironic: Yeah, 常常 is from the textbook, we haven't learnt that alternative yet. Is it more common/natural to use in conversation?

I feel 常常 is more appropriate in this context ("we often have tea and chat"). 经常 makes the action sound like something repetitive/required ("we constantly have tea and chat" / "we keep having tea and chatting"). Native speakers please correct me.

According to Grace Qiao Zhang's Using Chinese Synonyms (Cambridge U Press, 2010), 经常 stresses regularity, while 常常 is frequency. I don't think either one implies constancy.

That's wrong

You should say 我们常常一起喝茶聊天

Three points:

1, If you mean "We usually do something together", then put " together " right after " usually "

A,我们在一起时常常。。。。

B,我们常常一起。。。。。

they are both correct and natural. A means when we are together, we usually do something, and B means we usually do something together

2, we seldom write 儿 right out in text. It reads too strange for most

3, we say 喝茶聊天 instead of 聊天喝茶 because we consider enjoying tea something more formal than chatting. Chatting is only side-things although it may be of more worth and importance in people's contact
