American-style BBQ grill cookout

How would I express the concept of an American-style barbecue cookout? On a grill like this:

I just bought a factory reject grill from Taobao (originally intended for USA market) for a very good price and I plan on using it frequently this summer to entertain. If I tell everyone it's 烧烤 then they'll arrive expecting mutton and vegetable meat sticks. I'm thinking of the ordinary American style BBQ cookout - one weekend it's hamburgers, the next time steaks, the next time chicken, and so on. Ice-cold beer, ice cream, little kids running around, music playing, you get the idea. How would I best describe this concept? I already tried telling people 美式烧烤 and I just get funny looks.

How do you explain the colour blue to a blind person? You're not going to find a word that will explain the concept and not require further follow-up and explanations, and even then, the people you mention it to probably still won't get it until they've experienced it for themselves.

If 美式烧烤 has failed, try 美式BBQ (with BBQ pronouned the Chinese way letter-by-letter). Out of curiosity, how did the Taobao sellers describe what the grill is and what it does?
