NOK Posted April 4, 2013 at 09:53 AM Report Posted April 4, 2013 at 09:53 AM Hi, I currently work in China and have a work permit that expires on the 30th June 2013. However, I have a problem as I got the permit after I booked my flight out of China back to the UK on the 13/07/2013. Additionally, I am looking to work at a summer camp between 13th June and 13th July and I will need a work permit. I have 2 questions: 1. Is it possible for a person to extend their work permit by a month? 2. If 1. isn't possible, can I apply for a standard 30 day tourist visa WITHIN China to tide me over till I fly out? Thank you so much! Quote
liuzhou Posted April 4, 2013 at 11:20 AM Report Posted April 4, 2013 at 11:20 AM What do you mean when you say you have a "work permit"? There is no such thing in China. Do you mean a residence permit? If so, that is tied to one employer and cannot be extended for a month. You would need a new permit for the new employer (in the highly unlikely chance that a summer camp would be able to obtain one). Quote
NOK Posted April 4, 2013 at 01:25 PM Author Report Posted April 4, 2013 at 01:25 PM @liuzhou Yeah I meant the residence permit. However on the point of it being unlikely..why so? These english camps have been going on for a long time now, how do they manage to obtain new permits for their foreign employees? Quote
liuzhou Posted April 4, 2013 at 01:47 PM Report Posted April 4, 2013 at 01:47 PM how do they manage to obtain new permits for their foreign employees? What makes you think they do? It isn't possible to get a residence permit for a one month job. 99% of summer camps are illegally employing people on tourist visas. The authorities usually turn a blind eye, but not always. Quote
NOK Posted April 4, 2013 at 03:04 PM Author Report Posted April 4, 2013 at 03:04 PM ohhhhhh...noted. And bewildered. Thanks. Quote
liuzhou Posted April 4, 2013 at 03:29 PM Report Posted April 4, 2013 at 03:29 PM Sorry, it was not my intention to bewilder you. Rather the opposite. Quote
