chinakimster@nym.hush.com Posted May 13, 2013 at 03:00 PM Report Posted May 13, 2013 at 03:00 PM Hi all, I need help with a problem: I have some cash - a rather large sum of US dollars, and need to send this to my bank account in Europe. This is clean money, nothing shady or dirty about it. Hard earned cash, actually. I am in the Shanghai area for a short while and dont have a Chinese bank account or anything. I dont want to carry the cash or course, and just want to send it back home. I have a Paypal account though. Any good ideas will be greatly appreciated! Safe and easy would be preferable. Lu Posted May 13, 2013 at 05:07 PM Report Posted May 13, 2013 at 05:07 PM Western Union? Alternatively, traveller cheques, they are insured against loss. Quote
chinakimster@nym.hush.com Posted May 13, 2013 at 05:12 PM Author Report Posted May 13, 2013 at 05:12 PM Thanks for answer. I think the fee in Western union is extremely high, also the point in that it must reach my bank account so that I can use it when I need it on my trip. Can I change from cash to travellers checks in a Chinese bank? K Quote

anonymoose Posted May 14, 2013 at 01:58 PM Report Posted May 14, 2013 at 01:58 PM Just open up a Chinese bank account. All you need is a passport, and you can do it in a few minutes. It usually doesn't cost anything either, or maybe 5 yuan for the card. Quote

zhouhaochen Posted May 16, 2013 at 03:20 AM Report Posted May 16, 2013 at 03:20 AM You can transfer USD out of the country without problems via your bank. Just like you would in any other country. Just take the money to a bank. I personally recommend staying away from the Bank of China though. Quote

abcdefg Posted June 29, 2013 at 01:55 AM Report Posted June 29, 2013 at 01:55 AM #10 -- I personally recommend staying away from the Bank of China though. @zhouhaochen -- I know you have lots of China experience, so I'm wondering about your reasons for this admonition. Have you had bad experience with BOC? Quote
