80 scholarships is big quota. Look on bright side: If only 120 people applied, that means that almost 70 % of you will get the scolarship.

Quota for my country (Serbia) is 5. Just be confident, you are in good position.

EjaculusMaximus, samo kod Srba ima takvoga imena :)

We get even fewer spots, only 4, I'm from Macedonia. 80 scholarships doesn't sound that bad, don't worry.

do you know when and where the results for Serbia are going to be announced? :)

Hi boys n gals,

First of all congrats to all who ev got the scholarship!

This is my first post so don't blame me if there's sth wrong with it. So basically just wanna confirm what you think about my case.

So first of all, I've got this email from Hainan Uni on 28th June.

Hello! name etc

This is xxxxxxxx from Hainan University! I’m glad to inform you that we just received your documents from CSC. According to the notice of the China Scholarship Council, your scholarship for studying in China will be covered by full (including tuition, lodging, comprehensive medical insurance, medical care, learning material and living allowance). Congratulations!

So they asked me to confirm that I would like to study there and so I did.

Then the next email was:

Hello! xxxxx

We are pleased to inform you that, having examined your application materials, we have decided to enroll you to study at the xxxxxxx, Hainan University, as a Master’s degree in the program of xxxxxxx taught in English from Sept. 2013 to July. 2015 .

According to the procedures, we have made and sent your admission letter and the JW201 form to the CSC office already.

Best regards!
xxxxxx

And then having asked what's the next step, they replied that I would just have to wait for the documents. Now, I called the embassy and firstly, they were quite surprised that the Uni has already contacted me and told me about the results and then person responsible for education told me that they would receive the documents from CSC at the end of July and then would contact everyone individually to pick up the documents directly from the embassy.

Now my first question is: Do you lads think this is all definite? I mean I can sleep well from now on?

And secondly: I'm planning to go to China quite early as I've got some other stuff to finalize there before I start Uni. My question is do you think I'd be able to simply go on a travel visa and then change it to the student visa once in a country? [my mate told me he's done it that way before].

Once again congrats to all that ev got the scholarship and thank's for your replies in advance.

No no. 80 scholarships is what they are going to give this year. They already picked 80 people from the 120 or more that applied this year.

But from those 80 people only 78 gave the documents. So 2 people dont have any possibilities of getting the scholarship becasue they didnt delivered any papers.

The rest of us gave them to the Embassy. And now we are waiting the results.

Yes 80 scholarships is a big quota. Actually the Chinese Government is going to give about 400 scholarships to my country. So every year they will pick 80 people until they reached 400.

@cherrygrape I am of the understanding that although universities can send your admission letter and the JW201 form to the CSC office. It remains at the discretion of the CSC to confirm that you will be given a scholarship. I think this is why they do not want universities to be in contact with applicants. Because universities can confirm that they accept your application, but it is for the CSC to decide on the scholarship award. But if you see your name on the universities website on the list of CSC scholars selected then you should be fine.

@Angelina

Did you get any notice from Embassy? Why do I have feeling that balkan countries are going to get results at the last possible moment (najgori smo od sve dece )?

@Lola007

If quota for your country is not even completely filled, I don't see why you should be worried. If I were you, I would be happy. Aren't Costa Ricans supposed to be the happiest people in the world?

Hey. I think I am in the same situation as you. I sent an email to Hainan University and they told me that they have "sent my admission letter and JW201 form to the CSC office and it is estimated that I will receive it soon". So i guess I am not sure if got the scholarship yet, because I have not heard anything back from the CSC office as of now. I have not tried to call the Chinese Embassy of USA, but there are many numbers on that website and I wouldn't know who to call to be honest.

If you find a way to find out from Hainan University please let me know

Thanks,

pyee

Thanks for your answers guys. Bloody ell, I am quite scared right now, cause I thought the email from uni was a legitimate confirmation of scholarship admission, especially when they wrote that 'according to csc blah blah blah you are qualified for the scholarship'. I am scared even more cause I turned down a job offer in China, having thought that I'll be studying for the next two years.

@bagpipes1000 and @pjamesyee the trick is now, Hainan Uni hasn't got the official list of scholarship recipients, or at least i'm not able to find it on the English version of their website (tried google translate with the Chinese one, but it doesn't do well).

@cherrygrape - If your university sent the documents to CSC, that means your embassy will receive your documents, which they will then hand over to you. I assume CSC is aware of the quota that each country is given, but I can't be entirely sure. I think it would be really horrible if your embassy takes this opportunity from you. Anyway, to answer your question: yes it is possible to enter China with another visa type. I might actually enter with an F visa instead of an X visa. I have done this before. X visas expect you to sort out your residence permit within 30 days, while the F visa is a lot more flexible.

Ejaculus, I'm still waiting. When I called the Ministry of Education, which is supposed to officially notify me, they said they have no idea when will this happen.

My friend from Spain is waiting as well (shto juzhnije-to tuzhnije) :)

The final deadline for notification is July 31, I hope we won't have to wait that long.

@shuoshu- Thanks a lot for your prompt reply. I hope all will eventually work out. Regardless of the scholarship I will go to China anyway. One last question: do you guys think that in case of getting the scholarship, but having already left the country there will be any problems not picking up the admission letter and JW201 form?

@pjamesyeea- have you seen the official list they've posted before? There was only one lady admitted to Hainan Uni - just one.

"The final deadline for notification is July 31, I hope we won't have to wait that long."

I hope that too. Well at least you are from Spain and you dont need an American Visa. I can go trough Europe too but it costs the double and the travel is exhausting. So I need to go trough the USA which is a pain in the ( you know where)

I have already paid 160 dollars to apply for it. And I have to schedule my appointment. If they reject me is going to be a pain in the XXX for sure. So I need the resolution now. Cause I have a month to do it all. Can you imagine?.

Third world country problems. hahahahaha :(

@cherrygrape - The form for the X visa is not that important. But I'm pretty sure you will need your admissions notice. Get someone from your country to post it to you if possible. Alternatively, you can contact your university and see if it's acceptable not to have the admissions letter when you arrive. Perhaps they can make a new one for you.

Hey Guys,

Just to keep everyone update as it relates to the status of my application Today I received and email from the the Ministry of Finance which has responsibility to administer the scholarship that I was selected for an award of the Chinese Scholarship. I was further asked to confirm my acceptance of the scholarship (which i did) and told that i should come in to collect my visa application form for processing at the Chinese Embassy.

However, I am sure which university I will be going as yet, because the Chinese Embassy normally host a awards ceremony to official hand over to selected candidates their admission packages that will let inform us know as to where we are placed.

To those who have not been told as to their status, just keep the faith and hang on in there.

Also, for the others who have been notified, I look forward in meeting some of you in china

Does any Chinese University announce Second List for CSC full scholarship? As HUST announce only 60 students for scholarship out of 66 nominees and for remaining 25 nominees they are asking to wait unless they dont receive anything from CSC.
