I am learning Wubi out of curiousity. I already know Cangjie. As I don't speak Chinese well, my sole source of information is this piece of writing, and this article. They are sufficient. I learnt Cangjie when I didn't even know 200 characters. So I know I can make it.

It has been less a week since my foray into Wubi. I am not going to say it is better than Cangjie. Wubi is more complicated, it is ugly, and it is only suited to Simplified Chinese characters and Mandarin. Whereas with Cangjie more expansive, you can write Kanji, Hanja, Hanzi (both simplified and traditional).

But there is one aspect in which Wubi decimates Cangjie - speed.

汉语(ee ivmmr) = Cangjie 5 = seven keystrokes

漢語 (etlo yrmmr) = Cangjie 5 = nine keystrokes

汉语 (ic ygkg) = Wubi 86 = six keystorkes

汉语 (icyg) = Wubi 86 = four keystrokes

印度 (hpsl ite) = Cangjie 5 = seven keystrokes

印度 (qgbh yaci) = Wubi 86 = nine keystrokes

印度 (qg ya) = Wubi 86 = four keystrokes

and the loveliest of all

Less keystrokes = more speed, isn't it?

In case you are wondering why there are two seperate sets of code for character in Wubi, the answer, my friend, lies in its design. For commonly occuring two-character words, you merely need to write the first two letters of the code of each character.

So my question: Has anyone tried both Wubi and Cangjie? Everyone (an exaggeration!) knows Cangjie is elegant. But is Wubi faster?
