New Members required information Posted August 14, 2013 at 11:08 AM New Members Report Posted August 14, 2013 at 11:08 AM Angelina, who actually tested / certified you and so on. What was the actual procedure? Is this an actual legitimate method in all places or something that your school has negotiated in your specific area? Quote
HedgePig Posted August 14, 2013 at 11:21 AM Author Report Posted August 14, 2013 at 11:21 AM No, we didn't roddy. It's possible we might still, but at this stage it seems unlikely. "Changing corporate priorities" and all that meant that it didn't even get as far as looking at the visa issues in any great detail. Quote
Angelina Posted August 14, 2013 at 08:20 PM Report Posted August 14, 2013 at 08:20 PM http://evaluation.safea.gov.cn/login.php I found it on the Internet when I was desperate. You have to be in China to take a TEFL course they are organizing, pay 3000 yuan, pass the exam when you finish the training, go through an online evaluation and scan certain supporting documents (a letter of reference, your bachelor's degree). Most other trainees were sent there by their prospective employers. Quote

Angelina Posted August 15, 2013 at 10:29 AM Report Posted August 15, 2013 at 10:29 AM In order to address fluctuations in supply and demand for foreign teachers in China, foreign expert status is limited to those who have two years teaching experience. The department of Cultural and Educational Experts, of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA) permits foreigners to teach in China, with foreign expert status, if they have taken the TEFL in China training, have obtained their certificate, and have their records on the evaluation system for foreign language experts, which is maintained by the Information Research Center, SAFEA. Of course, every applicant who would like to apply a foreign expert certificate must have a bachelor's degree or beyond. http://tefl.chinajob.com Admin, you are free to remove the link. (With your Google PageRank, I can understand why ) Quote
roddy Posted August 15, 2013 at 10:55 AM Report Posted August 15, 2013 at 10:55 AM We have no problem with genuine links to commercial services - there are a million of them to Pleco, Chinesepod, BLCU, all over the forum. All we ask is that if you have any link to the business you disclose it. This is a pretty typical bit of rent-seeking by SAFEA. They could just have identified a number of approved TEFL courses and stayed out of the market, but nope, they had to make a buck off of it. Still, if it gets you a proper job... 1 Quote
ChTTay Posted August 15, 2013 at 01:26 PM Report Posted August 15, 2013 at 01:26 PM foreign expert status is limited to those who have two years teaching experience Has this become more strictly upheld? In the past, it seemed the less desirable the place to work, the less this mattered. Alternatively, a school with good connections, the less this is an issue. Quote
icebear Posted August 15, 2013 at 11:46 PM Report Posted August 15, 2013 at 11:46 PM It's being enforced more strictly in Beijing, at least over the last 6 weeks. Quote
