Shelley Posted July 2, 2013 at 12:29 PM Report Posted July 2, 2013 at 12:29 PM Do you know YouTube is not always available in China ? There is an alternative Youku. Quote
Lu Posted July 2, 2013 at 04:14 PM Report Posted July 2, 2013 at 04:14 PM I do know of the Back Dorm Boys, but isn't that hype at least five years old? 1 Quote
skylee Posted July 2, 2013 at 04:31 PM Report Posted July 2, 2013 at 04:31 PM 3. Why are they famous? They are famous?? Quote
Ruben von Zwack Posted July 2, 2013 at 06:47 PM Report Posted July 2, 2013 at 06:47 PM I'm German but even though I use Youtube a lot I haven't heard of "Y-Titty". I searched them as I was curious, but couldn't get myself to watch more than 40 seconds. Maybe people who like to hang out in a language learning forum aren't the right Zielgruppe? Alder, bohoho!!! Cat Jones Posted July 3, 2013 at 02:00 AM Report Posted July 3, 2013 at 02:00 AM "Y-Titty" and "Back Dorm Boys" - and it's not porn? 1 Quote
liuzhou Posted July 3, 2013 at 07:27 AM Report Posted July 3, 2013 at 07:27 AM YouTube is blocked in China. Even if it weren't Youku and Tudou are the video sites of choice in China. You aren't going to get far researching Chinese knowledge of something which isn't available. Quote
New Members PopularCultureJonathan Posted July 3, 2013 at 08:13 AM Author New Members Report Posted July 3, 2013 at 08:13 AM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_Dorm_Boys I know that youtube is blocked, but still back dorm boys were a phenomena from china on youtube a couple of years ago Quote
Shelley Posted July 3, 2013 at 10:31 AM Report Posted July 3, 2013 at 10:31 AM Exactly what I thought Cat Jones. It was one of my first thoughts that this was posted just to make everyone go and look, and up the viewing numbers, so I didn't. So I don't know they are like but the titles sound naff. Quote
liuzhou Posted July 3, 2013 at 03:07 PM Report Posted July 3, 2013 at 03:07 PM Ah! You aren't researching YouTube stars IN China, but FROM China. Still, no one seems to have heard of them. Quote
Ruben von Zwack Posted July 3, 2013 at 05:03 PM Report Posted July 3, 2013 at 05:03 PM Well each of these, the Chinese and the Germans, got a few thousand views on YT so someone must have watched them. But 30.000 views in a few years is nothing when you know that popular Youtubers get between 1 and 2 million of views on each video just within weeks or months. And I may have been a bit sarcastic in my first comment (cause the pain was still fresh), but in all honesty I don't think you will find people who watch such show in a language learning (or any other activity that involves sitting down and thinking) forum. Not to sound mean, just realistic. Quote
