So we just wanna know that "Is there any discrimination (about skin color) in China?" .... (if you have been seen the NIKE's television commercial "Chamber of fear" before, you will be able to see that the content is about black American won over those Chinese icons such Kung Fu master or Dragons. TSkillet Posted March 11, 2005 at 08:20 PM Report Posted March 11, 2005 at 08:20 PM there is both plenty and almost no racism in China. Allow me to explain - because there is a lack of true contact for 99% of all Chinese people with black (or East Indian people for that matter) - very few Chinese in China have an opinion about black people except for what they see in movies, read in the newspapers and see on television. This often leaves them with negative views of black people - or at least very stereotypical ones. (I used to walk around China with a friend of mine who is African-American and 6'7" - everyone used to ask if he was Michael Jordan). The prevalent view is that all black people are criminals, athletes or African students here to date the chinese women and take them home. So there's racism in the way that black people are viewed. The converse of that, however, is like I said, very few Chinese ever come in contact with or see a black person - unless you're in a city with a university or one that is fairly touristy. The last part is - the viewing audience that those Nike commercials had been aired for (before they were taken off the air) would probably have a less stereotypical view of blacks - because they're likely watching NBA games on television. gougou Posted March 12, 2005 at 08:57 AM Report Posted March 12, 2005 at 08:57 AM here to date the chinese women and take them home. That's so funny, because when I go to China, I have the impression that half of the female Chinese population is just waiting to be dated by a foreigner and taken back home... Quote

flyinghome Posted March 20, 2005 at 11:34 AM Report Posted March 20, 2005 at 11:34 AM it is quite irresponsible to say that half of chinese women waiting to be dated and taken home by foreigners. most of women in china are a little conservative although much improvemt have been made. they are often doutful about strangers especially the ones from foreign counties. in fact many people from southeast Asia are now living beside me, and i dont see any discrimination agaist them. they eat with us, play football with us and enjoy the same cllassroom with us. there is harmony i think as for the reason, i think it is because CHina is compromised of 56 races people in china have be used to live with diffrent races or cultures.
