Hong Kong Home Return Permit (回乡证)

First a little bit of my background: I was born in HK, current holder of a HK passport, HKID, and a Home Return Permit. Going to Shanghai for an student exchange/internship program in the Fall (August to December).

My question is, do I still need a student/work visa?

I know I'm considered a PRC citizen with Hong Kong residency, but I was wondering what is the correct procedure so I can "legally" stay in Shanghai for the student exchange and internship (not paid) program. I've read somewhere that I need to report to a local station of my location and purpose but my understanding of it is quite vague. If anyone can enlighten me I'll be extremely thankful :)

Have you contacted the internship programme for such information?

According to this, no visa is required. I don't know if it is up-to-date or accurate.

Hmmmm I would love to, but we don't know what internships we're having until we get to Shanghai. Weird I know, but that is how our university's program works. Thanks for the link and clarification!

Assuming this is an overseas (ie, non-HK) university, I'd just hand your passport in with everyone else and let them figure it out.
