tuzirabbit Posted July 26, 2013 at 11:57 AM Report Posted July 26, 2013 at 11:57 AM So I'm taking the plunge, I have enough money to keep me going for a year so I can study Chinese somewhere in China. It will be tight though so I need to study somewhere cheap which is why I've ended up strongly considering Yuxi, has anyone got anything to say about it. Also, on the cucas website there are plenty of other affordable universities only they don't offer cheap dorms, Yuxi's costs 1200 RMB per year. Quote
abcdefg Posted July 27, 2013 at 05:24 AM Report Posted July 27, 2013 at 05:24 AM There have been other threads, but I cannot find them by searching at the moment. Yuxi is a nice town, not far from Kunming. The campus is pretty. I've been there for a look around, but never took any courses. Don't know about the dorms. I would double-check that rent figure; it sounds too low. If you figure a 9-month academic year, that's only 134 Yuan a month or about 5 Yuan a night. That's too little, even for a bunk in an 8-bed dorm room. Go for it! Best of luck! Let us know how it goes. Quote
tuzirabbit Posted July 27, 2013 at 01:23 PM Author Report Posted July 27, 2013 at 01:23 PM Thanks for the support mate It does seem rather low but the website does quote that price, it's the same price for KUST in Kunming too. You do have to pay for utilities though but I doubt that will amount to much. Quote
abcdefg Posted July 27, 2013 at 01:56 PM Report Posted July 27, 2013 at 01:56 PM Looks like a bargain. I wouldn't mind living in Yuxi. It's a gentle and relaxed place. Quote
brennan Posted August 4, 2013 at 04:06 PM Report Posted August 4, 2013 at 04:06 PM I am also considering going to this university. Their website (http://icec.yxnu.net/) is obviously outdated but still has useful information. The tuition + accommodation fees for a 6-month period are very appealing (roughly 16,760 RMB for a 2-bedroom apartment or 12,560 RMB if you opt to stay in the dorms). I would probably start there during the winter, or spring term at the latest as I am committed to another university until then. Maybe I'll see you there? Good luck with your studies and wherever you decide to go! Quote

It's probably the most pleasant city in china, I have spent there some weeks few years ago as a traveler. I found some videos which are made by the students, in those you can see the dorm , the Uni and surroundings...may helps to decide. http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNTcxMDc1NjI4.html http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNTY2MDgxNTQ4.html Quote

brennan Posted September 20, 2013 at 04:30 PM Report Posted September 20, 2013 at 04:30 PM Thank you, Titus! Reading through that blog now. I may end up there in November or February if I decide to continue studying at the university I am at now. So I may see you there and good luck regardless! Quote
