I don't have any friends who speak Chinese 'in real life'

Am on qq and qq talk but haven't had much luck

is there a good way to find people to practice speaking with online?

Off the top of my head sites that have been mentioned include italki, lang-8, and...oh, there's loads of them. Google language exchange.

You can try italki, conversationexchange.com, mylanguageexchange.com. I've tried the last 2 with some success, but am still trying to find someone to speak with in person. Talking with people across time zones is cool, but not very convenient.

You can also try www.verbling.com, which is like Chat Roulette, but with a focus on language learning and without the perverts. It you can already speak, and you need to be forced into a situation to converse, then it is great.

I second livemocha as a language exchange resource. I spent a week on there and now have five people bombard me every time I sign into my Skype.

I have a buddy who's had some luck using WeChat for iPhone and Android to randomly find people, although I'd be careful using it as I hear it's random chat feature doesn't always yield... kosher results.
