adamnhms Posted August 9, 2013 at 02:17 AM Report Posted August 9, 2013 at 02:17 AM 你好, I'm making my transition into learning chinese simplified characters. I was looking at some popular books online for learning simplified chinese characters. While there are so many sources of study for learning chinese characters out there, each individual source has its own drawbacks. From your experience, what is the best source/method you've used or know of for learning chinese characters? Any materials such as books that can be named would be greatly appreciated. 谢谢你 Quote
Koxinga Posted August 9, 2013 at 03:43 AM Report Posted August 9, 2013 at 03:43 AM The method in Heisig's books worked well for me and many other people. Then there are the others who are completely against it. See thread. Quote

milestones Posted August 10, 2013 at 03:24 PM Report Posted August 10, 2013 at 03:24 PM Wenlin & Pleco. Given you already know traditional, Wenlin would be a great resource for you because it often explains differences between traditional and simplified. Quote
Ruben von Zwack Posted August 11, 2013 at 09:01 AM Report Posted August 11, 2013 at 09:01 AM I haven't found a Holy Grail resource either - as you said, they all have their short comings. I guess what happens is that you work with a number of resources, print and online, and form the bigger picture in your head by yourself. Have you already seen the "100 most common radicals" list by Olle of Hacking Chinese? You can download it from his blog (hackingchinese). He is a Swedish guy who studies teaching Chinese as a second language in Taipeh (but his list is both simplified + traditional). I downloaded it and replaced the numbers for tones with diacritics, cause I find that more convenient. I believe it is okay for me to do attach this version, cause he deliberately made his list for download. List_The 100 most common radicals_Hackingchinese.docx Quote
