EmmaW Posted September 3, 2013 at 09:26 AM Report Share Posted September 3, 2013 at 09:26 AM I have a beautiful robin's egg and blue and white vase with lots of Chinese characters on it. I'd be really greatful if someone could help me translate them. I've managed to identify the marks for Kangxi but after that I'm a bit stuck. The vase is probably 19th/20th century so the marks won't be of the period, but I'd still love to know what they all mean. Thank you so much
skylee Posted September 3, 2013 at 09:43 AM Report Share Posted September 3, 2013 at 09:43 AM The second picture says "康熙辛亥中和堂製". Made by Zhonghe Tang in the year Xinhai during the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1671). According to informatino on the internet (I am no expert), Zhonghe Tang was the residence of Emperor Kangxi in the Yuanming Garden Palace (aka Old Summer Palace). (PS - according to info on the internet, this stamp indicates that the porcelain was produced by a kiln that served the court.) (PPS - if this is not a fake then perhaps it is quite valuable.) The third photos says "江流天地外 山色煙雲中", describing a scene where the rivers flow beyond your sight/imagination/the world, and the mountains are hidden behind clouds and smoke. EmmaW Posted September 4, 2013 at 08:23 AM Author Report Share Posted September 4, 2013 at 08:23 AM Thank you skylee, that is really interesting. Unfortunately it is not the real thing and is a late 19th/early 20th century copy. Otherwise it would be very valuable indeed!
