JustinJJ Posted September 24, 2013 at 01:09 AM Report Posted September 24, 2013 at 01:09 AM Hi, I've got a whole bunch of Chinese textbooks that I probably won't be looking at for a while (if ever), but take up a lot of space and will be a pain when I move. Does anyone know of a way I can convert them into an ebook to keep for reference (PDF) and then throw out / give away the books? Preferably with an iPhone lol. Quote
skylee Posted September 24, 2013 at 01:55 AM Report Posted September 24, 2013 at 01:55 AM Perhaps use something like this https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/camscanner-free/id388627783?mt=8 Quote
JustinJJ Posted September 24, 2013 at 04:51 AM Author Report Posted September 24, 2013 at 04:51 AM Thx, that app looks very promising as it can scan to a PDF. What would be icing on the cake would be of there's a program I can use that can read the scanned characters so that I can save pages into a word document. Quote
muyongshi Posted September 24, 2013 at 05:10 AM Report Posted September 24, 2013 at 05:10 AM I have *yet* to find a good OCR for Chinese characters. Sorry. Quote

roddy Posted September 24, 2013 at 09:16 AM Report Posted September 24, 2013 at 09:16 AM OCR on Chinese characters is going to mean doing a lot of error checking, and generally textbooks don't work so well as they aren't just chunks of text - the tables, bullet points, illustrations, exercises, etc, could all cause problems. Ruben von Zwack Posted September 24, 2013 at 09:41 AM Report Posted September 24, 2013 at 09:41 AM Would there be a good programme for PC, if I indeed do have the time to go over the text and error check character for character? I got a few new Chinese books and the amount of unknown characters is killing me. I'm old school and can do the radical search, stroke count, and what not. But with 20+ unknown characters per page it's too much even for me. Quote
