iPhone keyboard not functioning properly since updating to iOS7

Since updating to iOS7 on my iPhone 4 when writing text using a QWERTY keyboard with Chinese Simplified Pinyin, characters no longer appear, only the letters which I've typed. Anyone else with this problem and found a solution? It works fine when I use the traditional Pinyin keyboard but I'm in Beijing and I don't recognise a lot of traditional characters.

Sounds like it's time to switch to hand-writing input method then ;)

I would if my handwriting was quick but it ain't. Also, the new handwriting recognition on iOS7 is atrocious I find, especially when compared with Pleco. Alas, problem has been solved by the old fashioned switching off the phone and switching it on again. If in doubt with anything electrical this method usually works. Don't know why I didn't try it sooner.
