Ink15 Posted October 3, 2013 at 03:21 PM Report Posted October 3, 2013 at 03:21 PM Hi, I'm thinking about studying in China. But I'm worried about the foreigner physical health examination. Basically I had minor heart surgery when I was a kid 15 years ago to repair an artery in my heart (I'm now 24). And I've taken blood pressure medication to help control my blood pressure ever since. I am perfectly healthy physically and mentally aside from my elevated blood pressure. It would be an awful waste of my time applying to study in China just to be turned away on health grounds. I am visiting China again in December this year, and I'm not applying to study until next year, would it be possible for me to just show up at one of the health testing centers in december and get my foreigner physical exam done and cleared? I guess this would give me peace of mind. I will be going to Shanghai, does anyone know how much it will cost me? Cheers guys, Dan Quote
stoney Posted October 4, 2013 at 02:35 AM Report Posted October 4, 2013 at 02:35 AM I think there main concern is to screen out people with communicable diseases. I know a few people with heart conditions and even more with HBP that have had no problems. Quote
GotJack Posted October 4, 2013 at 03:32 AM Report Posted October 4, 2013 at 03:32 AM I'm sure you could get it done, it cost me about 450 yuan in Hangzhou. One thing I would recommend is when you find out where the medical centre is, go there as early as possible! At my one, it stopped seeing customers at 11am! Quote
abcdefg Posted October 5, 2013 at 04:02 AM Report Posted October 5, 2013 at 04:02 AM Basically I had minor heart surgery when I was a kid 15 years ago to repair an artery in my heart (I'm now 24). Puzzling. "Minor heart surgery to repair a coronary artery" would be considered an oxymoron by most people, laymen and professionals alike. You might be better off just not disclosing this on the health questionnaire unless you have a thoracotomy scar that will need explaining to the examiner. (Hmm. Guess I shouldn't really say that.) When I had a physical here in Kunming to get a study visa, I had to tell the clinic where to send the results. They gave me one copy, but sent another to my school. Can't swear the system is the same everywhere. I'm not sure whether it would cause a problem if you just came in independently and requested that kind of exam for your own information. Quote
