roddy Posted October 7, 2013 at 08:57 AM Report Posted October 7, 2013 at 08:57 AM Site will be down for a while (not sure how long) shortly while I run an upgrade of the software. So if you're writing any long posts, make sure you keep a copy or two... Quote
roddy Posted October 7, 2013 at 02:22 PM Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 at 02:22 PM Upgraded, hopefully most things still work as they should. I'll be around for the next few hours for troubleshooting. Quote
roddy Posted October 7, 2013 at 02:33 PM Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 at 02:33 PM Although the fact that I just spent 10 minutes troubleshooting the lack of reputation buttons on this topic before realising that I'm the only person to have posted, and that you don't see those buttons on your own posts, indicates it might be time for a rest. roddy Posted October 7, 2013 at 03:00 PM Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 at 03:00 PM Changes you might notice - the Google search now goes to a full page, rather than a pop up. I prefer this. It's a bit ad-heavy at the moment - I have a payment pending with Google as I try to get those removed. The editor now handles quotes differently. I would not personally say it handles them better.... Quote
imron Posted October 8, 2013 at 12:17 AM Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 12:17 AM The editor now handles quotes differently. Test. Hmm, not sure they've made a good decision with that change. Quote
abcdefg Posted October 8, 2013 at 02:46 AM Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 02:46 AM Since the update, I can no longer use Firefox to post. My posts disappear if I attempt to proofread and edit them via the "More Reply Options" at the bottom of the "Reply to this topic" box. I get an error message on a blank box saying "you must enter a post." Firefox 24.0 (up to date) Windows 7 ultimate, SP 1 (up to date) I will check my Firefox plug-ins and add-ons. Seems to work OK on Internet Explorer, but I dislike using that browser. Plus I've become addicted to Perapera for checking my Hanzi. Quote
abcdefg Posted October 8, 2013 at 02:58 AM Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 02:58 AM Managed to make the post (about tea) but am unable to make changes or corrections after the fact, even using IE. Don't know if that's intentional or if it's a bug. Quote
skylee Posted October 8, 2013 at 03:44 AM Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 03:44 AM I can't post using IE. A message saying that the message is empty pops up. I am using Chrome to post. Quote

roddy Posted October 8, 2013 at 06:57 AM Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 06:57 AM Ok, I can make and edit posts on both browsers. Could you if possible... a) Hit CTRL+ F5 to force a reload of various css / javascript filesb) Try running without any add-ons or extensions. To do this in IE, Click Start then type 'internet explorer' - you should see two applications come up, IE, and IE (No Add-ons). In Firefox, click the Firefox button at top right, Help, Restart with add-ons disabled. You could also try hitting the top left button in the editor (looks like a little light switch). This will disable a lot of the javascript and might prevent any conflict. In the past editor problems have been down to a conflict with browser add-ons. Let me know what happens, and I will see what I can do. If it is a problem with an add-on I can contact the author and also the folk that make the editor. Edit: I installed Perapera on Firefox, but it still worked fine in my case at least. Wanted to check that one though, as presumably a lot of people use it. Quote
roddy Posted October 8, 2013 at 10:06 AM Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 10:06 AM Also seems to be a bug with posting urls with Chinese characters in - I'm working on this. Quote
skylee Posted October 8, 2013 at 10:46 AM Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 10:46 AM I have just pressed Ctrl+F5 before posting this. Seems that it works now. (Using IE) Thanks. Quote
Lu Posted October 8, 2013 at 05:42 PM Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 05:42 PM Testing if I can post now... Edit: yes! Quote
roddy Posted October 9, 2013 at 09:44 AM Author Report Posted October 9, 2013 at 09:44 AM Making some changes to the Google search function, let me know if there are any problems. Have tested on Chrome, Firefox and IE. You may find the results page very ad-heavy - I'm having trouble getting a payment through to remove those. Incidentally, while testing I was using random member names as search terms, and I've ended up deciding to redecorate. Quote
imron Posted October 9, 2013 at 11:23 AM Report Posted October 9, 2013 at 11:23 AM Yeah tell me about. Turns out my name's a brand of paint - but at least it's elite. Quote

imron Posted October 11, 2013 at 10:56 AM Report Posted October 11, 2013 at 10:56 AM Also true P.S. the mobile site seems not to be markings posts as read, and clicking on topics always skips to the latest post rather than the last unread post. Quote
