Touchstone57 Posted October 8, 2013 at 02:42 AM Report Posted October 8, 2013 at 02:42 AM I recently went to visit my mother in law and found a book that she bought called "One Hundred Gems of Ancient Chinese Poetry" 中国古诗一百首. It contains one hundred selected Chinese poems (in simplified Chinese), complete with pin yin scripts, translations in English, with commentary about the poem both in English and Chinese. The author suggests that it is useful for both Chinese learners interested in Chinese culture and for English learners. The author has individually selected a number of famous poems and their translations and added them into this volume. I can't be certain how accurate the translations are but they seem very well done and beautifully written. The English translations create some very beautiful imagery, and if you are able to read aloud the Chinese you can certainly appreciate the rhythm of Chinese poetry. The poems also include some small illustrations and comments about the original author. I think it is definitely useful if you are interested in this sort of thing. My wife says many of these poems are quite famous, and most Chinese children have to memories them word for word in China. You can find the book on Amazon. I couldn't find many other versions, I hope you found it useful. 2 Quote
