sommerzeit Posted November 2, 2013 at 03:31 AM Report Posted November 2, 2013 at 03:31 AM Hi everyone,I just have a small question! I'll be applying to universities in China through the government scholarship scheme for entry in 2014 and was just wondering whether its common for people to start a new subject in China when starting their Masters. I know in the UK (my home country) it's not 100% uncommon, as long as you're not going from something like Music to Biology, but many friends of mine have gone from things like English Literature to Philosophy without problems. I was wondering whether it's also like this in China? I'd personally be looking to go from Modern Languages BA here in the UK to something like digital design and media, maybe even programming if it would be possible. How feasible would either of those options be? I do have portfolios and experience in some digital art that I do in my spare time, which could possibly help?Thank you for any advice! 1 Quote
Ludens Posted November 20, 2013 at 02:31 AM Report Posted November 20, 2013 at 02:31 AM I'd really like to know more about starting a new subject for your masters as well. In China, how far can your master be removed from your bachelors? There must be people with experience in this area? Please share! Quote
Brian US Posted November 21, 2013 at 10:30 AM Report Posted November 21, 2013 at 10:30 AM Totally doable and common, just depends on the school, program, and your competition. Be proactive with reaching out to the school and scholarship councils while demonstrating how serious/skilled you are. I knew a girl from Finland that was doing a master's at Renmin University (I think a humanities?), and she didn't even have a bachelor's degree. Just reach out to your top choices and go from there.
