Some generalizations are just too true and valuable to discard.

The English translation in the article is misleading because the Chinese word used in survey is "利益" which means more generally "benefit" or "interest", not just "profit." The respondents may have been thinking mutual human benefits, instead of purely economic profits. The Chinese version of the question also doesn't seem to have included the word "entirely" that's in the translation.

One should note further that 83.4% of respondents agreed with the statement "personal interests should be subordinate to national and collective interests." The word "利益" is again used in this question, which, I think, should be translated as "interests."

67.1% responded that the greatest happiness one can achieve in life is "a warm family."

For the question of "what should be the first measure of the worthiness of an individual," 40.8 said capability, and 27.6% said knowledge.
